Have you ever observed the pattern of cracks in dry mud or the structure of a dragonfly wing? These natural phenomena share a fascinating geometric pattern known as the Voronoi diagram. This mathematical concept, which describes how space can be divided into regions based on the proximity of points in a plane, served as inspiration for the Curupira Trophy 2024, designed by CBA B+G.
The trophy project, which marks the 4th edition of the Design for a Better World Award (DFBW Award) promoted by Centro Brasil Design (CBD), was born from a truly collaborative effort. We joined forces with Cazoolo, a packaging design lab for circular economy, to develop a piece that celebrates the interconnection between nature and technology through design.
Adopting a biomimetic approach, the team used nature as a model, measure, and mentor for the creative process. The result is a statuette that symbolizes the union of the natural world with technological innovations, reflecting the principles of Design for Environment (DfE).
Sustainability was prioritized at every stage of development. Cazoolo brought its expertise in circular economy, materializing the trophy through 3D printing, with production materials supported by 3DCRIAR. The technique ensured production efficiency and minimized material waste. Zaya also contributed to the project, applying its environmental impact calculation technology to calculate and validate the ideal solution through life cycle analyses (LCAs).
In homage to indigenous peoples, the project incorporated elements of indigenous culture. For this, we invited Hunim, a hub for Impact Businesses in the Amazon, which brought the story of the Araras People of Rondônia to the design. The collaboration resulted in the “touch of urucum” on the white statuettes, a subtle and deeply significant intervention to mark the aesthetics of the Curupira statuette.
In partnership with Antilhas, we created a box that is as functional as it is sustainable. Made from recycled kraft, without any glue, designed for total disposal and printed with water-based ink, it exemplifies how every element can be rethought with environmental responsibility.

For us, the Curupira Trophy 2024 demonstrates the power of collaborative and conscious design, combining systemic vision, sustainability, and creativity. It is a tangible reminder that when we work together and in harmony with nature, we can create solutions that inspire a better future.
